North Tipp SHC Gr 1 07.04.13 (Sun) Round 1 Burgess V Silvermines Time: 2 00 PM , Venue: Nenagh Referee: TBC Our North senior campaign got off to a disappointing start on Sunday with a heavy defeat to Silvermines in McDonagh park. We took the wind advantage in the first half though it was the Silvermines who scored first after only one minute of play from a free by Jason Forde. Stephen Murray levelled things up with a free of his own a minute later. Forde then tagged on another from play which was quickly cancelled out by an Eoin Leahy Hogan effort, also from play. At two points a piece with seven minutes on the clock this would be as close as we would get to the mines. There then followed a sequence of five unanswered points from the mines which left them 0:07 to 0:02 ahead with 20 minutes gone. The rot was reversed momentarily with another Murray pointed free however the mines struck back with points from play within a minute. We were now 0:09 to 0:03 adrift after 21 minutes. We rallied before half time scoring four good points from play to the Silvermines one, two from John O’Dwyer and one a piece from Eoin Leahy Hogan and Donagh Maher. The sides went in at half time with Burgess trailing by 0:07 to 0:10 and hill to climb in the second half. 2nd half If we had a hill to climb at the end of the first it would soon turn into a mountain. With seven minutes elapsed in the second half the mines had scored 2:02 to Burgess’s 0:02. The goals that effectively finished the game as a contest came from frees within three minutes of each other off the stick of Jason Forde. Burgess fought gamely on and at one stage got briefly within five points of the mines but there was another hammer blow in store after 15 minutes of the half when David Boland snuck in for the Mines third goal of the day. The game finished up with the Silvermines deserving winners on a scoreline of 3:18 to 0:15. Burgess Niall McGrath, Paddy Hogan, Donagh Maher(0,1), John Hogan, Conor Quigley, Johnny Mulqueen, Peter Gill, Noel Gleeson, john O’Dwyer(0,2), Damien O’Brien(0,1), Shane Maher, Eoin tossy Hogan, Stephen Murray(0,8 7f), Brian Hogan & Eoin leahy Hogan(0,2). We face Roscrea in Dolla on Saturday 13th April at 6:30pm in the North senior Hurling championship Great win by our Senior Hurlers on Saturday Senior match report
After last week’s stinging defeat to the Slivermines our senior hurlers responded in fine style with a great victory over Roscrea in Dolla on Saturday last. Conditions were poor with a strong cross field wind making shooting extremely difficult for both sides but nevertheless Burgess got off to a bright start with Stephen Murray making the score 0:02 to 0:00 after 8 minutes. Roscrea replied with two points of their own to make the game level at two points apiece after 15 minutes. Burgess then took over outscoring Roscrea by 1:05 to 0:02 for the remainder of the half. The Burgess scores came from Murray (1:03) and a point each from Noel Gleeson and Damien O’Brien. This left Burgess leading 1:07 to 0:04 at half time. The second half began like the first with Burgess registering the opening score, a fine effort from play by Damien O’Brien after only minute on the clock. Burgess continued to dominate the half outscoring Roscrea 0:06 to 0:04 for the half in deteriorating weather conditions. The Burgess scorers for the half were Damien O’Brien with 0,2 Stephen Murray also with 0,2, Eoin Leahy Hogan and Daniel Ryan with a point each. Burgess were full value for their 1:13 to 0:08 win on what was a difficult day for hurling (Burgess had 16 wides, Roscrea had 8) This result now sets up a grandstand make or break final group game against Toomevara. So we march on with our fate firmly in our own hands.

Senior Hurling: Dr Fogarty Cup Semi Final 30.05.13 (THUR) V CLONOULTY/ROSSMORE at 8:30 PM (E.T. Available) in CLONOULTY Note change in date, time and venue Junior A Hurling: 01.06.13 (Sat) League Round 5 v BORRIS-ILEIGH Time: 7 30 PM , Venue: Borrisoleigh Referee: Kieran Delaney. Well done to our boys who defeated Clonoulty 2:17 to 1:11 Thursday night. clonoultyrossmoregaa.com/?p=434Senior Hurling Challenge Cup Semi Final DR. FOGARTY CUP SEMI FINAL Burgess 2-17 Clonoulty Rossmore 1-11 Burgess qualified for the Dr. Fogarty Cup Final as a result of a nine point victory, at the expense of West champions Clonoulty Rossmore, in an entertaining game played in summer conditions , at Clonoulty on Thursday night. Burgess started this game in whirlwind fashion and centre forward Damien O’Brien had the opening point inside the first minute. This was quickly followed up with points by, man of the match, Eoin Hogan in the fourth and sixth minutes. Burgess drove on and had points from Daniel Ryan, Noel Gleeson, Cian McDonnell and another from Eoin Hogan to lead 0-7 to 0-0 after ten minutes. Fiachra O’Keeffe opened the scoring for the west men after eleven minutes from a free out near the sideline and followed up with a similar score one minute later. Daniel Ryan had a point for Burgess. Eoin Hogan had the game’s opening goal when he gave Clonoulty goalkeeper Jimmy Maher no chance from close range, after some hesitation and loose marking in the Clonoulty defence. Hogan again added another point before O’Keeffe had his and Clonoulty’s third point from a long range free on seventeen minutes. Clonoulty then picked up the pace, played their best hurling of the game, and had their opening score from play with a fine point from centre forward Paul Hayes. Fiachra O’Keeffe added another from a free and full forward John Heffernan goaled for the west men on twenty four minutes after a piercing run by Aidan White from out on the left wing. Paul Hayes added his second of the game and Tommy Lyng scored a great point from a tight angle to cut the lead to two points on twenty eight minutes. This was to be the closest that Clonoulty would come in this game as Eoin Hogan and Damien O’Brien added points for the north men to leave the score at the break, Burgess 1-11 Clonoulty Rossmore 1-07. The second half started just like the first. Burgess went on the attack from the throw in and after ninety seconds Andrew Dunne was brought down by Jimmy Maher, after exposing the Clonoulty full back line. This resulted in Maher being yellow carded. Eoin Hogan crashed home the penalty and followed up with a point from play. Jimmy Maher saved point blank at the expense of a sixty five from Dan Ryan and Hogan converted the resulting free. By this time Burgess were firmly in the driving seat and Clonoulty had to wait until the tenth minute to open the scoring, again with a point from O’Keeffe from a placed ball. Burgess replied with points from Hogan and Damien O’Brien to lead on the three quarter mark by ten points. Aidan White had a point for the west men which was followed up with points from placed balls by Fiachra O’Keeffe in the twenty first and twenty fifth minutes. Burgess closed out the game with points by Hogan and Noel Gleeson to leave the final score Burgess 2-17 Clonoulty Rossmore 1-11. This was a game in which Burgess were always in control and when the west champions came within striking distance were always able to pull away. They now move on to the final and Clonoulty look forward to their west semi final meeting with Cappawhite in a few weeks time. Burgess were best served on the night by Shane Maher and Tim Hogan in defence, Noel Gleeson and Johnny Ryan at midfield and Damien O’Brien and Eoin Hogan in attack. Hogan finished the game with 2-09 and was always a danger to the Clonoulty defence through out. Clonoulty had goalkeeper Jimmy Maher to thank for keeping them in this game with some breathtaking saves. Jimmy is part of the county under 21 panel and is steadily establishing himself as one of the up and coming goalkeepers in the county. The Clonoulty defence was always under pressure but Anthony Kearney and Joey O’Keeffe were not found wanting. Up front Paul Hayes and John Heffernan tried harde and Fiachra O’Keeffe was always showing well and converted seven points of Clonoulty’s total. Burgess: Brian Sherlock, Patrick Hogan, Shane Maher, William Ryan, John O’Dwyer, Tim Hogan, Jack Flaherty, Noel Gleeson (0-2), Johnny Ryan, Cian McDonnell (0-1), Damien O’Brien (0-4), Brian Hogan, Dan Ryan (0-1), Eoin Hogan (2-9), Andrew Dunne. Burgess v Cappawhite Rd2 county senior hurling championship 2013 Burgess 0-22 Cappawhite 1-11 The outcome of this round 2 county championship game dictated whether Burgess played in senior A or B next year and as such made it make or break for both sides. We started the brighter, albeit the more wasteful, despite having the aid of the breeze. After ten minutes we had edged in front, two points to one, our scores coming from both Eoin Hogans from play, however our wide count was seven to two. We seemed a little nervous in front of goal despite our dominance in terms of ball possession and field position . Cappawhite had the only goal of the game after 13 minutes of play and it was a rasper which gave Niall McGrath no chance. The score stood at 1-2 to 0-3 at this point and despite our dominance we trailed by 2 points. Well done to our lads though as they regrouped, recovered and lead for a time again before going in level at half time on this sweltering evening in Newport 1-7 to 0-10. The second half had more bite to it and we began well with two excellent points from play from Danny Ryan and Damien O’Brien putting us 0-12 to 1-7 up after two minutes of the half, 0-12 to 1-7. We dominated the remainder of the half with a display of accurate point taking from play and placed ball in what was becoming a fiery second half. Indeed our free taker on the night helped himself to seven pointed frees in the second half. In the end we held Cappa to only four scores in the second half against our twelve which resulted in our boys running out deserving winners 0-22 to 1.11. We now meet Borrisoleigh in the next round of the county championship Burgess scorers: Eoin Leahy Hogan 0-13(10f), Eoin (Tossy) Hogan 0-2, Danny Ryan 0-1, Damien O’Brien 0-2, Mike Flaherty 0-1.1

County Senior Hurling Challenge Cup Fr Fogarty Cup Final Nenagh Éire Óg 1-18 Burgess 1-18 AET We set a blistering pace early on in this senior hurling league final leading 1-10 to 0-4 at half time. Our points coming from the two Eoins Hogans, three a piece, Kevin Nealon, Noel Gleeson, Jonathan Ryan and Conor Quigley. Our goal came from a deft flick by Brian Hogan after the ball was broken down into his path by Kevin Nealon. Though we lead it was with the aid of a stiff breeze and we would be shooting into a low sun in the second half. Eire Og came out with all guns blazing in the second half and had our lead pegged back to just three points 1-13 to 1-10 with 15 minutes left of normal time. Their comeback was completed at the stroke of normal time when they equalised to send the game to extra time at 1-14 each. Extra time was tit for tat with both side exhausted and it was left to Tossy Hogan to tie the game up with a superbly taken pressure shot at the death to leave the scores 1-18 all. Well done to our lads for turning out two fine results within a week. Burgess team and scorers: Niall McGrath, John O’Dwyer, Shane Maher, Jonathan Mulqueen, Jack O’Flaherty, Conor Quigley (0-1), Michael O’Flaherty (0-1), Noel Gleeson (0-1), Damien O’Brien, Eoin ‘Tossy’ Hogan (0-4), Brian Hogan (1-1), Jonathan Ryan (0-1), Eoin Hogan (0-7, 0-5 frees), Kevin Nealon (0-1). Subs: (HT) Brian Tucker for Jack O’Flaherty, (35th) Daniel Ryan for Jonathan Ryan, (56th) Andrew Dunne (0-1) for Kevin Nealon, (ET) Jack O’Flaherty for Brian Tucker, (73rd) Kevin Nealon for Daniel Ryan.
